Staff - Parent To Parent NYS
Deborah Byrd-Caudle
Regional Coordinator
I am a mother, grandmother, wife and sister and I have four adult children.
My talented, gifted and joyful daughter, Audrey, has given me a wonderful grandson and my son, Eric, has inspired me to cherish everyday of my life. Casey and Tim are my two young adults who where blended into our family at ages 3 and 6 through my second marriage. I too became a divorced single Mom raising a special needs child. However love finds a way and I was blessed when the man of my dreams floated into my life along with his two wonderful boys.
I joined Parent to Parent of NYS as the North Country Regional Coordinator in 2009. When I was raising my son, I felt alone, confused, distraught and at times abandoned by the world. I do not want today’s parents to ever feel that kind of detachment.
Parent to Parent helps you to become a part of a safe, non-judgmental community. It is a community that, without words, understands what others have been through and where they will be going in the future.
I consider myself to be an optimistic, high energy, creative, passionate, sports loving person, who has used humor, clarity of purpose and honest compassion to see me through tough times. I’ve listened, used appropriate support services and calmly advocated to enable my son to have a full and meaningful life. I’ve encouraged Eric to be all he can be and helped him realize that there are no limitations in life if he truly believes in himself and others. Find the right road to travel and stay on the course.
My son Eric and I have traveled many roads apart and together but we always remember those people who were there to support our journey. I hope that at this point in my life to give someone the support they need while facing the many emotional obstacles placed in their path. To hear a parent’s sigh of relief, realizing that they are not traveling down a dark frightening road alone and that we are connected to each other through the experiences we have in raising our children with special needs.
I hope to be a calm support to those seeking assistance and a driving force of knowledge, connecting families to professionals, individuals and appropriate needed services.
